UAMS Post-doctoral Fellowship in Perinatal/Birth Defects Epidemiology

The Department of Epidemiology in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking highly motivated applicants for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in perinatal/birth defects epidemiology. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Epidemiology (or a related field with extensive Epidemiology coursework) by the start date.

Fellows will devote most of their time to project management and independent research, but will also be expected to participate in seminars, workshops and trainings as available. Fellows will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at the Arkansas Center for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and the Arkansas Reproductive Health Monitoring System. Fellows will also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at other institutions, depending on research interests, including: Center for the Study of Tobacco, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Arkansas Children’s Research Institute, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and Arkansas Department of Health.

The term of appointment will be for two-years, contingent upon funding. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and based on stipend levels provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Applicants should have:
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to author technical and scientific reports, publications, and invited papers, and deliver scientific presentations.
• Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills necessary to collaborate effectively in a team environment and be capable of independent original work.
• Excellent data analysis skills using SAS, STATA, R or a similar software package.
